Annapolis, MD Supercharger is Open

Annapolis, MD Supercharger

The Annapolis, MD Supercharger at Annapolis Towne Centre is now officially on the map. It’s located on the second floor of the parking garage at 217 Harker Place across from Target.

Annapolis fills the gap between the Laurel Supercharger and the Tesla Supercharger in Grasonville, which is at a Royal Farms on the eastern side of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge.

Construction on the Tesla Supercharger in Annapolis began in May, 2018. The installation has, by all outward appearances, been completed since last summer. The site took many months to finally come online. The Anne Arundel County Department of Inspections and Permits website (Permit No. E02332269) shows records of a long delay between a successful progress inspection on June 18, 2018 to a series of failed final inspections recorded between July 17, 2018 and March 4, 2019.

Downtown Hagerstown Fast Chargers

Hagerstown Maryland EV Chargers

Featured Plug In Site: Hagerstown, Maryland Fast Chargers

Ranked as Maryland’s sixth largest city, Hagerstown lies near the intersection of Interstates 81 and 70. Many travelers stay on the highway and bypass the downtown area. That’s unfortunate because Main Street Hagerstown is rich in history and culture plus it sports a number of delightful restaurants and attractions. Now, electric vehicle drivers have a special reason to visit Main Street Hagerstown, a bank of four DC Fast Chargers serving both CHAdeMO and CCS. Read More …

Featured Plug In Site: Outer Banks Brewing Station

Charge your electric car while enjoying food and entertainment in the OBX

On December 17, 1903, Orville and Wilbur Wright made their historic first flight in Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina. This is the 115th anniversary of the Wright Brothers’ famous achievement and a good day to feature the  electric vehicle charging stations at the Outer Banks Brewing Station which is located next to the Wright Brothers National Memorial.

The Outer Banks Brewing Station opened in March, 2001. Founders, Aubrey Davis and Eric Reese, incorporated environmental sustainability into the restaurant and brewery from the very beginning. The Outer Banks Brewing Station is the first wind-powered brewery in the United States. The same wind that made the conditions favorable for the Wright Brothers can now help power the EV charging stations that were installed as part of the Tesla destination charging program in 2017.

National Harbor Supercharger Moving to Nearby Garage

National Harbor Tesla Supercharger Garage

Construction of New Supercharger Location at National Harbor has Begun

In October, the National Harbor website announced that the parking lot that contains the Tesla Superchargers will be closing. Apparently a new building will be constructed on the land where that parking lot now resides.

New Superchargers are to be installed at the Fleet Street Garage located just to the north of the current Tesla Supercharger lot in National Harbor. A permit for Tesla, Inc. was issued on November 8, 2018 for the “Installation and Use of Electric Car Charging Station and ancillary equipment inside existing parking garage.”

Today, there are signs of construction outside the north-west corner of the garage.

Baltimore Supercharger Open

A Tesla Supercharger in the parking garage at 1641 Whetstone Way, Baltimore, Maryland is now open. There are eight stalls in the East Parking Garage in McHenry Row by the Harris Teeter in Locust Point.

The eight urban-style Supercharger stalls are positioned along the south wall at the top of the ramp leading to the second floor. The red Tesla signs indicate that two spaces are dedicated to Tesla Vehicle Charging Only with the remaining six labeled 30 Minute General Parking.

This garage has solar panels on the top deck courtesy of a Maryland Energy Administration grant. The Parking Lot Solar PV Canopy with Electric Vehicle Charger Grant was awarded in 2014.

There are two GE Level 2 charging stations on the ground floor in the SE corner, one ChargePoint L2 on the NE corner and two SemaConnect charging stations in the NW corner on the third level.

The Tesla “Find Us” web page had said that the Baltimore Supercharger was targeted to open summer 2018. Tesla has also identified Annapolis Supercharger as opening this summer and it has been under construction at the Annapolis Towne Centre since late May and appears to be close to being finished. Stay tuned.

EVgo Fast Charger Site Opens in Silver Spring, MD

Silver Spring EVgo Charger
CCS/CHAdeMO Fast Charging Station in North Silver Spring, Maryland

A new EVgo charging station with six dual-port CCS/CHAdeMO Fast Chargers has opened in a hotel parking lot in North Silver Spring, Maryland near Route 29 and Cherry Hill Road.

This is one of only a few charging sites in the US that have more than two dual CCS/CHAdeMO DC Fast Chargers together at a single location. Six chargers together is even more rare and the few that do exist are mostly in California.

There is one other six-stall fast charging location in Maryland at Nottingham Commons in White Marsh, about 2 miles east of the White Marsh Blvd. Exit off I-95, that opened a few weeks before this one.

These 50 kW charging stations made by BTC Power, Inc., are on the EVgo network.

The North Silver Spring EVgo charging station is at the Courtyard by Marriott at 12521 Prosperity Dr., Silver Spring, MD.

The Indian River Marina at Delaware Seashore State Park now has a SemaConnect EV charging station for public use. The marina is located off of Route 1 between Dewey Beach and Bethany Beach and is within walking distance to swimming and sunbathing at the ocean. The park boasts of six miles of ocean and bay shoreline.

Visitors to the marina can grab a bite to eat at Hammerheads Dockside restaurant. In addition to boating, the area is popular for hiking and bird watching. If you are looking to stay longer, you can rent a cottage at Indian River Inlet.

Delaware was early to add a statewide network of EV charging stations under the Charging Up Delaware program in 2015 under a partnership between the University of Delaware and the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC). In 2016, the Delaware Division of Parks & Recreation was approved for a grant to install two D.C. Fast Charging Stations at Blue Ball Barn in Wilmington and Indian River Marina. Neither of those fast chargers have been installed. Perhaps plans changed and this Level 2 was located here instead.

The charging station is free to use and does not require a card as of June, 2018.

Annapolis, Maryland Supercharger Under Construction

Annapolis Tesla Supercharger
Construction has begun on a Tesla Supercharging Station in the parking garage at 217 Harker Place at Annapolis Towne Centre. There appear to be eight diagonal pull-in stalls going in at the NW corner on the ground second floor.

A Tesla Supercharger in Annapolis has been talked about for years. Several locations have been rumored or speculated during that time including the Annapolis Towne Centre which is managed by the same company that has the Towne Centre at Laurel where the Laurel Supercharger opened in 2016.

The Tesla “Find Us” webpage says that the Annapolis Supercharger is targeted to open this summer. Tesla has also identified Baltimore as targeted for a Supercharger this summer. Stay tuned. Read More …

Six-Stall DC Fast Charger Sites Coming to Maryland

6-stall DCFC Silver Spring
CCS/CHAdeMO Fast Charging Station in North Silver Spring, Maryland

Outside of a few places in California, it’s rare to find more than two DC Fast Chargers together at a single location. Tesla has hundreds of Supercharger sites with as many as 40 charging stalls. Maryland House and Chesapeake House Travel Plazas on I-95 have four CCS/CHAdeMO DC Fast Chargers each.

But now, two sites in Maryland are under construction with six dual-port CCS/CHAdeMO Fast Chargers lined up in a row similar to what you would see at a Tesla Supercharging station. One is being built in a hotel parking lot near Columbia Pike and Cherry Hill Rd. in Silver Spring, about 3 miles west of I-95.

The other six-stall fast charging location is at Nottingham Commons in White Marsh, about 2 miles east of the White Marsh Blvd. Exit on I-95. Read More …
